Featured Artists:

TPG has chosen the following two Etsy Artists to be our very first Featured Artists!!!!! We adore their shops and their creations and highly recommend them to all who read this! Also check out Etsy's Hidden Treasures where we have showcased one item from each of these fabulous sellers:

Adriene's Creations

From Adriene's Creations' Etsy Profile:

I've always loved making things with my hands, whether it be jewelry, origami, or just any old scraps I happen to pick up! My goal is to not only make something pretty to wear or to display, but to create enjoyment for people in the little things: details, edges, lines.

In the pursuit of a career, I've discovered that what matters isn't what you earn or what you own, but the time you take to appreciate the things and people around you. That's why I've tried to keep my prices down by combining different types of materials and recycling as much as I can... I don't believe that the best things in life should cost the earth! Please contact me for info on custom work or ideas of things you'd like to see.

I've just entered the world of the blog! For more info and some previews of the work I'm doing, or just to add your own comments to my ramblings, go to:

Blacklilypie

From Blacklilypie's Etsy Profile:

Blacklilypie is Tara Fortin and Rocko the Cat.

I am an illustrator, working from a pink purple and black studio, making pink, purple and black things.

Batcat was conceived in university as an assignment in letterhead design, and he just took over my life. Years later Batcat is on alot of the things I do. He is naughty and grumpy and might just be the cartoon version of my real life destructive cat, Rocko the Cat.

I also have a portfolio and shop website, www.tarafortin.com, where you can see my paintings and other artwork..I used to have a shop there but closed it because Etsy works so well!

I also blog at

or

My studio is NOT pet free. Rocko the big man-cat lives with me, so be aware!

TPG has posted its first poll on its Etsy's Hidden Treasures Squidoo page. The poll asks: "What is Digital Art?"

Some people think that digital art is not a "handmade" craft or that it is not a dignified art because of the use of computers and technology. We at The Purrrfect Gift think otherwise and consider it a valid form of expression, creativity, inginuity, and artistry! Let us know what you think! Some people think that digital art is not a "handmade" craft or that it is not a dignified art because of the use of computers and technology. TPG will begin showcasing other entrepreneurs from Etsy, eBay, CafePress, and its many other partner sites. If you would like us to write a review on your shop, blog, or item, please contact us! Please, check back in the next few days as we will be posting our first two artists from Etsy whom we recommend and adore! They will also get the next two slots on our Squidoo page!

TPG has joined two new partner sites:

HomeGrownMarket.com - a portal for artists & crafters to sell their handmade goods/services. This is a brand new site and is in its early stages of completion. TPG set up a profile and has listed one item (so far) and is waiting to see what the site will evolve into. Stay tuned for further information! Check out TPG's profile: http://www.homegrownmarket.com/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=53

Squidoo.com - This site is great and can be used as a blog tool, picture sharing tool, e-zine tool, or to showcase your latest news or favorite items! The Purrrfect Gift is using it to showcase Etsy artists, writer Brian Jaime's (my) latest works, and for many other purposes. Please check out our Squidoo profile for further updates!

TPG has joined some very interesting Yahoo! Groups and would like to share them with you. Please take a look at our Blog's left column, under "Groups and Affiliations", for all of the groups we are members of. ALL entrants will be receiving free t-shirts for participating and the winners will receive a paid subscription to CRAFT: Magazine and will be mentioned in its inaugural issue. Featured Item: EtsyCraft Contest Digital Collage Fine Art Greeting Card

Featured Item:

ETSYCRAFT CONTEST DIGITAL COLLAGE
FINE ART GREETING CARD

by Brian Jaime

This is my entry for the EtsyCraft contest. It is not yet midnight (12am) here on the West Coast in California, so I hope I made the cut since the site was down today.

This is a digital collage greeting card. It measures approximately 5"x7" and comes with a matching, blank white envelope.

The front of the card showcases my "CRAFT:" inspired digital collage. I have tried to include every medium from sculpture and sewing to digital art and painting. There has been much discussion on the forums here at Etsy about what the word "Craft" means to people. A lot of people seem to think the word is very limiting and does not represent much of what people "create". Not so for myself. My personal feeling is that a craft is anything someone puts their creativity and imagination into creating. Craft is an all-encompassing term that can apply to chefs, painters, computer programmers, seamstresses, photographers, writers, filmmakers, doll makers, and beyond. This is what craft means to me.

The inside has the message: "Design it. Make it. Embellish it. Sell it. What's your craft?"

The back of the card has our (The Purrrfect Gift) logo and copyright information.

This item is not for sale until after August 21, 2006 and makes a wonderful addition to a gift for any lover of Crafts! Also, it comes in a clear, re-sealable, plastic (cello) display bag purrrfect for gift-giving, storing, showing off, or collecting!

Please take a look at all of the entries in the Etsy.com and CRAFT: magazine EtsyCraft contest by going to Etsy.com and searching for keyword: etsycraft.

Clicking here will also take you to the contest entries. Who do you think should win?

To learn more about the EtsyCraft Contest, read about on Etsy.com or in Make Magazine's Blog.

Featured Collaboration: Art Card Collaboration Project - 11 Cards!

Featured Collaboration:

ART CARD COLLABORATION PROJECT - 11 CARDS!
by 11 Etsy Artists

These 11 unique cards were created by eleven Etsy artists who are just as unique as the cards themselves! They each feature a creative design and represent very different artistic mediums: mixed-media, collage, painting, drawing, quilting, stamping, inking, digital art, etc.

We are each selling a set of these original cards in our eleven Etsy shops. Each set is only $20!

Most of the cards are approx. 4" X 6" because most are postcard format. Some are notecard format and include matching envelopes. One card is an over-sized postcard format and makes an excellent addition to the set. Some of these cards are originals, while others are prints - most are signed by the artists. All of these cards are suitable for framing or for sending in the mail to friends near and far.

Each of the cards in this set (sold by The Purrrfect Gift - pictured in this listing) will be sent each in its own re-sealable, clear, plastic (cello) bag - purrrfect for displaying, collecting, or giving as a gift! You get 11 cards and 11 display bags! How fun!

The artists/shops who participated in this collaborative project are:

Please take a look at all of our shops for more great finds and to see the other creative cards listed!!! This has been a terrific collaborative project...to share our art and our shops...truly in the spirit of ETSY!

The watermarks shown ("The Purrrfect Gift" logo and "Sample") are not on the actual card itself. Please click on the picture for a larger peek at these neat cards!!!!

Note: All of these sets feature one-of-a-kind, mixed-media collages designed by Purrrfect Gift artist Brian Jaime (me). I had such a fun time creating these cards and working with such other unique and talented individuals! All of us who are part of The Purrrfect Gift Family felt this was such a neat idea! I hope they all find good homes and are appreciated as much as I appreciated being part of an extraordinary collaboration!

Featured Item: "Flower Garden - Illustration"

Featured Item:

"FLOWER GARDEN - ILLUSTRATION"
FINE ART ILLUSTRATION
by artist Brian Jaime

I designed this illustration from a photograph I took at the beautiful Getty Center's J. Paul Getty Museum Gardens in the city of Los Angeles, CA. These gardens are some of the most beautiful in California and boast various unnamed/untagged species of flowers, so I was never sure exactly what type of flower I was photographing.

I created this still life illustration using Adobe Photoshop CS2 and the photograph that inspired it was taken on a SONY Cyber-Shot DSC-F707 digital camera. I will have this photo professionally printed on acid-free, high-quality photo paper - it will not be printed using my home printer! The watermarks shown ("The Purrrfect Gift" logo and "Sample") will not be printed on the actual illustration.

Specifications:

- Brief Description: Signed Fine Art Print (see the Artist's Description above for additional information.)
- Title: "Flower Garden - Illustration"
- Artist: Brian Jaime
- Edition: Open
- Date: May 2006
- Size: 8"x10" (other sizes available; see Extra/Specialty services below)
- Professional Quality Print (please allow sufficient time before shipping for high-quality printing process)
- Professionally pinted on premium quality, acid free, archival paper (will not be printed from a home printer)
- Created using Adobe Photoshop CS2
- Inspired by a photograph taken on a SONY Cyber-Shot DSC-F707 digital camera
- All images are professionally photographed and/or illustrated digital images
- Watermarks will not be printed on actual illustration
- Un-mounted/unframed print (framing and mounting is available; see Extra/Specialty services below)*
